John9 Bowton; Spelling used in the papers of the barque "Assurance;"264 born 1615 at England; Some have claimed French Huguenot origin, questionable;265 married Alice Kellogg (see #23) circa 1636; in Boston per Ellsworth Arnold, in Stamford says Randy Dee Jones, others say married in Hartford. Actual records don't appear to exist;266 died before 1647 at Hartford, CT; Others had said he died in Norwalk or Stamford, however his widow remarried in Hartford, before the move to Norwalk.267,268

He immigrated in Dec 1635 to Boston, MA, Came on the barque "Assurance" from Gravesend, England, embarked July 1935.269,270 He lived at Hartford, CT.

Actual records don't appear to exist;283 married Matthew Marvin Sr, son of Edward Marvin and Margaret (--?--), 1647 at Hartford, CT;284,285 died after 1 Dec 1680 at Hartford, CT.

She moved to at Norwalk, CT, in 1650. She left a will on 1 Dec 1680 at Norwalk, CT; Alce Marvin of Norwocke... aged seventee years or thereabouts....sonn Joh Bowton (10 pounds)...daughter Bridgit Killock (10 pounds)...daughter Abigail Bowton (clothing).....daughter Rachell Smith (clothing)...grandchild Sarah Brinsmead (chest)... grandchild Ruth Bowton (pots)...grandchild Rachell Bowton (bible).286,287

Matthew9 Marvin Sr (Edward, #26); christened 26 Mar at Great Bentley, Essex, England; born 1603 at Great Bentley, Essex, England; married Elizabeth Gregory, daughter of Henry Gregory and Goody (--?--), Jan 1621/22 at Great Bentley, Essex, England;288 married Alice Kellogg (see #23) 1647 at Hartford, CT;289,290 died 1680 at Norwalk, CT.291

Among original founders of Hartford in 1635. A founder of Norwalk in 1649/50. Represented Norwalk in the General Court in 1654. Property in Farmington.292 He immigrated in 1635 Ship "Increase", Robert Lea master.293 He immigrated in Jun 1635 to Boston, MA, Sailed from London on "Increase" 15 April 1635.294 Surveyor of highways at Hartford in 1639 and '47--was an original propritor and settler in Hartford before '39. He came from England in the ship Increase, R. Lea, master. He removed to Norwalk, and was freed from training and watching there in "59, and was a deputy to the General Court from Norwalk in '54. The family were of some distinction in Fairfield county for many years.295 He moved to at Norwalk, CT, in 1650. He left a will in Dec 1678 at Fairfield, CT; Inventory filed 12 July 1680. Will mentions wife Alice, sonn John Bowton and daughter Abigal his wife, four daughters.296
